February 2026 round up

February round-up

From a rising star earning his wings to a Newport Pagnell LPG installation, a warranty warning every homeowner should read, and hitting 150 Google reviews — February was another busy month for the Lime Heating team across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. Here’s what we got up to.

Apprentice George is proving his plumbing skills

Some news we’re really proud to share this month: our apprentice George has taken a significant step forward in his career with Lime Heating.

George joined the team in 2025 and has been grafting hard ever since — working closely alongside our senior engineers on the tools while progressing through his college course at the same time. It’s not always easy juggling both, and George has done it with a really positive attitude throughout.

What’s made the difference isn’t just his technical progress — it’s the consistent feedback we get from customers. Time and again, we hear that George is polite, professional and clearly knows what he’s doing. When customers are complimenting your apprentice unprompted, you know you’ve got something special.

So as of this month, George has started attending basic plumbing jobs independently. Needless to say, he’s smashing it. Join him for a little ‘day in the life‘ video over on our Instagram page.

George is exactly the kind of engineer we want to develop at Lime Heating — someone who takes pride in the work and treats every customer’s home with the same care they’d want for their own. Watch this space.

The yoga sessions our engineers wish they didn’t have to do

We joke about the yoga-esque positions our engineers sometimes have to get into on the job. Contorted into a loft hatch, balanced on a ladder, reaching around pipework that really shouldn’t be where it is… It comes with the territory and we hope you’ll forgive the occasional grunt and groan as we struggle to unfold ourselves. But behind the joke is a serious point that doesn’t get talked about enough: boiler access is a critical part of any installation.

A boiler is a serviceable item. It needs to be accessed at least once a year for its annual service, and potentially more often if a repair is ever needed. Any installer who hasn’t thought carefully about how the boiler will be accessed after installation isn’t doing their job properly — and more importantly, they may be inadvertently voiding your warranty without you realising until it’s too late.

A loft installation (like the one pictured here) is a good example. Many boiler manufacturers have specific access requirements that must be met for the warranty to be valid. These commonly include a fixed, permanent ladder, a permanent light fitting in the loft space, and a boarded floor area around the boiler. If any of these aren’t in place, the manufacturer can, and often will, refuse to honour a warranty claim.

The problem is that homeowners rarely find out about this until something goes wrong and they make a claim, only to be told the warranty is void. By that point, the installer is long gone.

If you’ve had a boiler installed in a loft, an awkward cupboard, or any location where access feels difficult, it’s worth asking your engineer to confirm that the installation meets the manufacturer’s access requirements. If you’re unsure, get in touch with our team and we can take a look.

LPG boiler installation in Newport Pagnell

Boiler installations kept us busy across our service area throughout February, and one job in Newport Pagnell was a little different from the usual — this one was an LPG installation.

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is used in properties not connected to the mains gas network. Rather than being piped into the home, it’s stored in a tank on the property and topped up by a supplier delivering by tanker. Around 15% of UK properties are off-grid, and for many of them LPG is the most practical alternative to a conventional gas boiler. LPG boilers work in the same way as mains gas boilers, heating water that circulates through your radiators and taps, but the boiler must be either specifically manufactured for LPG use or converted with the correct manufacturer kit, as the fuel burns differently to mains gas.

One thing worth knowing: not every Gas Safe registered engineer is qualified to work on LPG. It requires additional training and a specific category on your Gas Safe registration. Our engineers hold the relevant qualifications, so if you’re in an off-grid property across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area and need an LPG boiler installed or serviced, we can help.

Celebrating 150 Google reviews for Lime Heating!

We hit 150 Google reviews this month, and we want to mark it properly. We’ve never bought reviews, or accepted the seemingly unavoidable Facebook DMs offering services that promise to boost your review count. Every review on our Google profile (and any platforms for that matter: we use Trustpilot and TrustATrader too!) is from a real customer’s experience with our team. That matters to us enormously.

One of the reviews we’re particularly proud of this month came from tenants Ash and Becky. We have great working relationships with a number of letting agents across the Milton Keynes and beyond, and those relationships come with a particular kind of responsibility. When we attend a job in a rental property, we effectively have to get it right three times over: we need to meet the letting agent’s expectations, work within the landlord’s budget, and deliver a positive experience for the tenant living in the property, who let’s face it, haven’t had a say in who’s coming into their home. That’s a lot of plates to keep spinning — and our team does it brilliantly.

Here’s what Ash and Becky had to say:

“Lime Heating are the partner of our Letting Agency. We had our hot water tank leaking upstairs into our hallway downstairs. We contacted our Letting Agency who put our request out to Lime Heating. Within the hour, they contacted us and informed us they were able to send someone out the same day.

We had Steve come out to our property to look into our issue for us. Steve was very friendly but also very professional and thorough. The issue with the hot water tank was more complex than anticipated and the poor chap was at ours for around 3 hours fixing the problems. He was very informative and relayed what the problems were and how they’d been fixed, showing us pictures and ensuring I understood when I asked questions. Steve ensured that he was clean and tidy upon arrival and leaving.

I was very happy with Lime’s effectiveness in responding to us and sending us a very capable and more than competent professional to our home. Thank you very much for your help.”
