June round-up

We’ve reached the end of another busy month so we’re taking a moment to reflect on the comings and goings here at Lime Heating.

Welcoming baby Violet to the team!

The biggest news this month has nothing to do with boilers at all. Congratulations to Martyn and Emma, who welcomed their daughter Violet into the world this June! We’re delighted to have a brand new team member and couldn’t resist making her very own uniform, with some extremely serious gas leak action advice on the back. Thanks to our uniform suppliers First Avenues Supplies for their usual quality printing, just on a smaller-than-usual scale!

A June heatwave to remember

With daytime temperatures pushing past 35°C, our engineers have been working flat out, and in conditions that are far from easy. Installing and repairing heating systems can be hard work at the best of times, but doing it in such extreme heat brings a whole new set of challenges.

Nowhere did that heat feel more intense than in loft spaces. We recorded temperatures as high as 44.4°C up on one job this month!

Project of the month: new boiler and cylinder in a loft conversion

This month’s project of the month comes from one of our regular partnerships with DJ Moore Lofts, a loft conversion specialist we frequently work alongside as trusted heating engineers in Aylesbury, handling the boiler and heating side of their conversions.

This particular job involved relocating and upgrading the entire heating system to make way for a new loft room. We started by isolating and draining the existing heating system, then decommissioned and removed the old boiler, hot water cylinder, and shower pump. Pipework was rerouted to a box room cupboard, and a new flue hole was cored ready for the replacement boiler.

In their place, we supplied and installed a Baxi 824 system boiler with a horizontal flue, backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, along with a magnetic system filter and inline scale reducer to protect the system long-term. We ran a new external gas supply from the meter to the new boiler location, and installed a 170L unvented hot water cylinder complete with a 2-port valve and automatic bypass valve for the central heating system.

On the drainage side, we ran cylinder discharge pipework to the outside and routed the condensate pipe from the boiler to a soak pot dug into the driveway, finished with lime chippings. Controls were finished off with a 2-channel programmer and a wireless room thermostat.

Once everything was connected, refilled and tested, the boiler was registered with the manufacturer, Gas Safe, and building control.

We love being part of projects like this that truly transform a home.
